That's why every book at Between Us Readers is classified into one of three Reading Tracks, based not on genre, but on how a book actually feels to read.
🟢 Gentle
Pick it up whenever. Put it down whenever.
Emotionally warm and safe. Simple, linear stories that don't ask too much of you. Easy to read in short bursts and just as easy to pick back up after a busy week of school, work, or life.
Perfect for: lapsed readers, low-energy days, bedtime reading, recovery, or anyone who just wants to exhale.
The kind of books that feel like: a cosy mystery where you know it'll all work out, a feel-good romance that makes you smile on the bus, a gentle coming-of-age story with warmth at its core. Think Richard Osman, Jojo Moyes at her lightest, Emily Henry.
🟡 Steady
Gets under your skin without taking over.
Emotionally engaging but balanced. These books are all about moderate complexity that rewards consistent reading without punishing you for putting it down. Builds momentum and keeps you coming back.
Perfect for: commutes, regular reading habits, readers rebuilding their bookish stamina, or anyone who wants to be absorbed without being consumed.
The kind of books that feel like: a dual-timeline story you can't quite put down, a psychological thriller that keeps you guessing without destroying you, a sweeping love story with real emotional depth. Think Taylor Jenkins Reid, Liane Moriarty, Delia Owens.
🔴 Immersive
This book will live in your head.
Emotionally demanding, complex, or compulsively unputdownable. These books ask something of you and give a lot back. The kind of story you're still thinking about weeks later.
Perfect for: holidays, dedicated reading time, or anyone who's ready to leave the real world behind for a bit and be completely taken over by a book.
The kind of books that feel like: a literary novel that rewires how you see the world, a thriller so twisty you read it in one sitting, an epic fantasy with a cast of characters you'll never forget. Think Gillian Flynn, Madeline Miller, Colleen Hoover at her heaviest.

Not sure? That's absolutely normal! most people move between tracks depending on what's going on in their life. You might be a Gentle reader in January and an Immersive reader in the summer.
